Nora Batty’s Holiday Cottage

Nora Batty’s Holiday Cottage

Stay in Nora Batty’s Cottage!

A unique opportunity to enjoy a self-catering holiday in Holmfirth and stay in one of the most famous homes in TV comedy.

Number 28 Huddersfield Road might be considered a rather unremarkable-sounding address, but it is, in fact, one of the most recognisable locations in the history of British television. This is because the picturesque riverside cottage, accessed by its famous steps, is the prim and proper home of none other than bossy battleaxe and TV comedy icon, Nora Batty.

The characterful, two-bedroom terraced house is furnished and maintained just the way Nora liked it, and it is also something of a shrine to Last of the Summer Wine with wonderful pictures from the series displayed throughout.

Be the envy of thousands of Summer Wine fans worldwide. Book now to enjoy the ‘Nora Batty experience’.

Vintage, retro, and more than a little nostalgic, yet home-from-home with all mod-cons.

Nora’s characterful two-storey terraced cottage was built in the late eighteenth century and is in a conservation area in the Summer Wine town of Holmfirth.

The cottage enjoys a scenic riverside setting, yet it is located close to Holmfirth town centre, and just a short walk from its many shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants.

Little is known about its earliest occupants, but at one time the property and others nearby were owned by Bass Brewery and provided accommodation for its workers and their families.

Over and under-dwellings are commonplace among the weavers’ cottages in Holmfirth, and the basement rooms accessed under the famous stone steps leading to Nora’s front door were once home to her greatest admirer, pesky scruffpot Compo Simmonite. Compo’s underdwelling is now part of the Summer Wine Exhibition next door, which is itself located under the Wrinkled Stocking tea rooms.

Inside, the cottage offers a surprising amount of accommodation. There is a flag-floored dining kitchen, a generous lounge, two large bedrooms and a big bathroom with both a freestanding bath and a separate shower.

Nora’s historic cottage is characterful and cosy, and comes equipped with everything you need to make your stay as comfortable and enjoyable as possible.
