Battle’s Over is the national commemoration of the one hundredth anniversary of the end of the First World War.
The event will start at 6-15pm and last approximately one hour or slightly less if the weather is poor. There will be music by members of Hade Edge Band, with the last post at 6-55pm. The last post will be preceded by the reading of a poem, by John Hammond, the Deputy Lieutenant of West Yorkshire. The beacon will be lit immediately afterwards.
The site is very exposed, so please wrap up well and wear stout footwear. There is no lighting, so please bring a torch. Come on foot, if you can but if not, please park away from Cliff Road, up on Stake Lane Bank. Warm refreshments will be available.
It is fitting that Cliff Rec is the venue for the anniversary celebrations, as one hundred years ago the end of the war was celebrated on the same spot, with the Hade Edge Band and a bonfire.
18:15 – Hade Edge Band will play music in the build up to the event
18:40 – Welcome from Friends of Cliff Rec
18:45 – Address from Deputy Mayor of Kirklees
18:50 – Reading of Battle’s Over by Deputy Lieutenant John Hammond
