Table tennis, badminton, Tai Chi, yoga, pool, cards, cuppa and a chat all for £5 at the Phoenix Centre, Dunford Road Holmfirth. Not Olympic standard, everyone plays for fun. You don't need a partner and a warm welcome awaits you. Come and give it a go or tell your over 50s family and friends.
The Holme Valley U3A Book group meets 2nd Tues of the month at 1.45pm. The University of the Third Age (U3A) movement is a unique and exciting organisation which provides, through its U3As, life-enhancing and life-changing opportunities. Retired and semi-retired people come together and learn together, not for qualifications but for its own reward: the sheer joy of discovery!
Gentle Movement sessions allow us to gently tune up our bodies so that they are ready to move. We warm up with yoga, tai chi and dance to improve suppleness and strength. We create simple movement working as individuals or groups with music and sound. We end with meditation. You do not need to have any experience of dance to take part, simply a wish to enjoy moving your body through space.
A friendly and informal singing group where we learn a variety of songs in harmony and begin with fun vocal warm ups. No experience needed just enthusiasm! Thursdays at 11am £5 per session. Term Time only
Holme Valley Sharing Memories A group of amazing people in their 70s, 80s and 90s, who meet once a week on a Thursday from 1pm-3.30pm (taxis provided) at Hope Bank Works in Honley. We work on a range of projects which use creativity to celebrate life experience and capture personal stories – we are starting on a project about memories of Pleasure Grounds and then creating ceramics with a sporting theme. Oaklands Health Centre in conjunction with Making space and Carers Count hold a drop in the 2nd Thursday of every month, 12pm-2pm. You do not need to have a diagnosis of dementia or be a patient at Oaklands Health Centre. Making space offer help, advice, information and support for people affected by Dementia and their carers.
